Make My Ganesha FAQ’s

Make my Ganesha is an interactive, hands on experience conducted by Maha Ganapati Temple of Arizona for children and adults alike where clay Ganesha Murtis are made in preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi. It is a tradition to make murtis of clay for the festival and Maha Ganapati Temple has been spearheading the workshops for many years valleywide.

Frequently asked questions about the workshops.

What is Make-My-Ganesha?
A: Participants, under the guidance of trained volunteers or Shilpis (temple artisans) shall make clay Ganesha murtis at the workshops.

I am interested in participating in the event. How can I register?
A: Please visit this https://www.ganapati.org/make-my-ganesha and follow the instructions on the website, register and pay online.

How much does each Ganesha cost?
A: Each Ganesha costs $6.

Should I get anything when I come to the workshop?
A: No. Whatever is required for Make my Ganesha activity, will be provided at the venue.

Shall I pay thru cash at the venue?
A: While cash is accepted at the site, we certainly prefer to receive payment online https://www.ganapati.org/make-my-ganesha

Shall I paint the Ganesha at the venue?
A: Painting while the clay is wet will prevent the paint from adhering to the clay. You can paint the murti at home after it has dried (takes a few hours).

How do we care for the Ganesha once we get it home?
A: Mist water on Ganesha. That will protect the murti from developing cracks.

I want to register for more than one Ganesha. Can I do that in one order?
A: Yes, you certainly can. You may place orders for as many Ganeshas. The total amount will be calculated on your order.

Once we register and pay online, how would we be able to book a location and a date, time slot?
A: The website will have the sign up form which will show the various locations. Please make sure you go to the location you selected as materials are assigned per location based on the numbers signed up.

Are walk-ins allowed?
A: We highly recommend registering ahead of time as material and availability cannot be guaranteed if not registered. While each location may have a few slots open for walk-ins, there may be delays or non-availability of material in some cases. Our goal is to help every participant and therefore registering ahead of time is highly recommended.

Could we have a list of locations that this event is hosted this year?
A: 22 locations around the valley in addition to the temple shall host workshops this year. The details are available at the temple website.

When is the Grand celebration of Ganesh Chathuthi and Visarjan / Nimajjan scheduled at MGTOA?
A: The Brahmotsavam takes place from Sept. 16th through the 26th. The Grand celebration shall take place on Sept. 17 and the Visarjan/Nimajjan shall take place on Sept. 23rd. Children will be able to perform Bala Ganapati Puja at the temple on Sept. 17, 22 & 23rd where children can perform Bala Ganapati puja to their clay Ganesha murtis.

Can we pick up the Ganesha at different locations (than the one that we reserved)?
A: The workshops are intended for the participant to make the Ganesha murtis with their hands. In case of an inability to make the murti at the venue, please ask a volunteer for help in making it during your time slot at the location you signed up at.

What will happen to my Ganesha if I am out of town on the day of Make my Ganesha?
A: If you have already registered for a workshop, please try and reschedule it to an alternate location that works for you/your child(ren) by contacting the respective volunteer listed on the website.

Can I collect my friends Ganesha on his behalf?
A: Please approach a volunteer on site to arrange any special requests.
